Unknown Device Installation Instructions
This solution has two sections:
Determine the Unknown Device 'ID':
Unknown devices are determined by the ID of the device. Each device in the system has an ID or identifier. Even when a device is Unknown the system can read its ID. The ID or identifier can be called several names: Hardware ID, Device ID, PNP Device ID, Instance ID. The ID tells you exactly which device is present. There is also a location of the device. Look for the ID instead of the location.
General way to determine the Device ID:
- In Device Manager, open the Unknown Device and view the Details tab.
Determine Device ID by OS:
Windows 2000:
- Open Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Information
- Open Components > Problem Devices
- Note the PNP Device IDs
- Match the IDs with the information below
Windows XP:
- Open Control Panel > System Properties > Hardware > Device Manager
- Open the Properties for the Unknown Device
- On the Details tab, note the Device or Hardware ID
- Match the ID to the information below
Windows Vista:
- Click the Windows Start Orb, type Device Manger in the Start Search box, press Enter
- Click [Continue] through any User Account Control windows
- In Device Manager, open the Properties for the Unknown Device
- On the Details tab, note the Instance, Device or Hardware ID
- Match the ID to the information below

SymptomsAfter upgrading to Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) users are able to use the AT&T Communication Manager (ACM v6.7.24) to connect to the AT&T WAN network only once.
